Arriving in Cusco after a long, smelly bus ride from Copacabana I was blown away by how grand the city was. It’s much more impressive than I’d imagined, with ancient imposing churches and official buildings seemingly on every corner. It’s proximity to the Inca ruins of Machu Picchu means that the Cusco’s own rich history and well preserved piles of old stones don;t really get a mention. Well, I’d like to stick my neck out and say it… Cusco is great. It’s expensive compared to other parts of this region and the main square does have a McDonalds and a KFC (which kind of spoils the medieval vibe), but it’s charming and like I say – it’s got more impressive old buildings than you can shake a stick at…
